Spirit, Identity, and Self in MountaineeringAnnapolis, Maryland This article gives a brief overview of psychological research on climbers, considers romanticism as the cultural context for the phenomenon of mountaineering, and concentrates on psychological themes found in an extensive review of mountaineering literature. The article is a condensed version of two chapters from a lengthy manuscript on mountaineering currently under consideration by publishers.
